Levels of Care

Effective anxiety treatment often takes more than one hour a week. It takes consistent, structured practice, close clinical support, and repeated real-world exposure. That is why we offer multiple levels of care for anxiety treatment, each providing a different intensity of support, so you can start at the level that matches your needs and adjust as you progress. Whether anxiety is significantly disrupting your daily life or you simply need more than weekly therapy can offer, there is a level of care built for where you are. All of our levels are grounded in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the evidence-based, gold-standard treatment for anxiety.

What Are the Levels of Care?

We offer two structured levels of care for anxiety: a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Both deliver intensive, evidence-based treatment while you continue living at home, and they differ mainly in how many hours of support you receive each day. The right choice depends on how much your symptoms are affecting your daily life.

Intensive treatment works because frequency matters. Practicing skills daily, receiving close clinical guidance, and doing real-time exposure work help you reduce avoidance, tolerate uncertainty, and regain functioning faster than weekly therapy can. As you progress, you can move between levels, stepping down as symptoms stabilize or stepping up if you need more support.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our partial hospitalization program is the highest level of outpatient care, running six hours a day, Monday through Friday. It is designed for clients whose anxiety significantly interferes with daily functioning, or who have not made enough progress at a lighter level of care, and it provides the immersive daily structure needed to stabilize symptoms and build momentum quickly.

PHP combines multiple therapy approaches, daily Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and structured skills practice. You can learn more on our partial hospitalization program (PHP) page.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient program provides three hours of treatment a day, Monday through Friday, for clients who need more than weekly therapy but do not require full-day care. It is well suited to people who are ready to actively engage in treatment while keeping up responsibilities like school or work, and it is available in person or virtually.

Through frequent, structured therapy and consistent exposure practice, IOP helps clients achieve meaningful symptom reduction while building the skills to maintain progress in everyday life. You can learn more on our intensive outpatient program (IOP) page, or explore our virtual intensive outpatient program.

Which Level of Care Is Right for You?

The right level of care depends on how much anxiety is affecting your daily life, how much structure you need, and what has helped so far. Clients with more severe symptoms, or those stepping down from residential care, often begin in PHP, while those who need meaningful support with more flexibility may start in IOP.

Many clients move through the continuum over time, stepping down from PHP to IOP to lighter care as they stabilize and build confidence. You do not have to sort this out on your own. Our admissions department will assess your situation and recommend the level of care that fits you best. Call 866-303-4227 to talk it through.

Frequently Asked Questions

What levels of care do you offer for anxiety?

We offer two structured levels of care: a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which runs six hours a day, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP), which runs three hours a day. Both are delivered Monday through Friday, are grounded in evidence-based Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and allow clients to live at home during treatment.

What is the difference between PHP and IOP?

The primary difference is intensity. A partial hospitalization program provides six hours of treatment a day and suits more severe symptoms or step-down from residential care. An intensive outpatient program provides three hours a day and suits clients who need strong support while keeping up responsibilities like school or work.

How do I know which level of care I need?

The clearest way is to let us help you decide. Our admissions department completes a thorough assessment of your symptoms, history, and goals, then recommends the level of care that fits your needs. There is no obligation, and you can reach the admissions department at 866-303-4227.

Can I move between levels of care?

Yes. Levels of care are designed to work as a continuum. Many clients step down from PHP to IOP, and eventually to lighter care, as their symptoms improve, while others step up if they need more support. Your treatment team adjusts your level of care as your needs change.

Choosing a level of care does not have to be overwhelming, and you do not have to decide on your own. Call our admissions department at 866-303-4227, and we will assess your situation and recommend the level of care that fits you best. Whatever level you begin with, the goal is the same: real, lasting relief from anxiety.
